Retrofit Study
GM Procure have commissioned Arup, to consider a range of domestic properties owned by Salix Homes in Salford and investigate the best interventions for reducing energy use and lowering tenants' bills, with the retrofit agenda in mind.
Arup's remit was to explore all technologies available and consider which may work best. Amongst a range of options, they examined doors, windows, loft insulation, dry wall insulation, air source heat pumps and solar panels.
Arup considered a number of crucial questions:
- what will bring the biggest carbon reductions?
- running costs
- ease of use
- payback on capital cost
- social and economic benefits
- job creation
- training opportunities
- what are the best interventions?
GM Procure Operations Executive, Steve Brindle says: "As there is no code for retrofit, the Arup report goes beyond what is current common practice and provides direction for landlords,"
